Organization Overview
Founded in 1990, MoveFwd is a nonprofit organization providing housing case management and mental health therapy services to youth ages 12-24 in the western suburbs. Our programs include housing case management, drop-in and outreach services, and a scattered-site transitional living program (TLP), homeless prevention services for families, school and community based mental health care. .
The majority of program participants identify as members of BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ communities and are navigating housing instability or homelessness and lack equitable access to health care. Guided by trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based approaches, MoveFwd is dedicated to creating pathways for stability, independence, and well-being for youth in our community.
Board Member Opportunity
MoveFwd is seeking passionate and skilled individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission and guiding our strategic direction. Board members provide governance, ensure sustainability, and champion the mission of MoveFwd in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an ambassador for MoveFwd, advocating for the organization and its mission.
- Participate in bi-monthly board meetings and serve on at least one committee.
- Provide strategic oversight and guidance for MoveFwd’s programs and initiatives.
- Support fundraising efforts through personal contributions, donor cultivation, and/or event participation.
- Collaborate with fellow board members and staff to ensure the organization’s success and sustainability.
Skills and Expertise Sought
We are actively recruiting board members with experience or expertise in any of the following areas:
- Nonprofit Experience- Direct Service, Management, Board
- Financial Management or Accounting- Specifically Nonprofit Accounting
- Lived Experience
- Community Outreach or DEI Initiatives
- Fundraising/Development
- Marketing and Social Media
- HR, Employment Law, and Governance

Board Member Expectations
- Commit to a three-year term, renewable for up to three cons
- Make an annual financial contribution meaningful to you.
- Attend and participate in board meetings, events, and committee work.
- Leverage your network and resources to advance MoveFwd’s mission.
