Position Overview
The Campus Safety and Security Manager at Willamette View plays a key leadership role in ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all residents, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day security operations and guiding long-term strategy in alignment with Willamette View’s mission, values, and regulatory expectations. The manager serves as a subject matter expert and advisor on issues related to safety, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation across the community.
In this role, the manager supervises a team of safety officers and coordinates security activities across campus, including patrols, incident response, access control, and enforcement of policies. They act as the primary liaison with law enforcement, fire, and emergency services, ensuring effective collaboration during both routine and high-risk situations. The position also includes investigative responsibilities related to policy violations, missing items, or resident concerns, requiring discretion and a commitment to confidentiality.
The manager is also responsible for key administrative and operational functions, including fiscal oversight of the department’s operating budget, collaboration on budget planning, and managing vendor and resource needs for physical and electronic access systems. They maintain and review security documentation and reporting systems, develop incident summaries for leadership, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement in safety protocols. A strong understanding of internal processes and a proactive approach to risk evaluation are essential in this role.
Leadership extends to personnel management as well, with responsibilities that include supporting the hiring and development of Campus Safety staff, delivering ongoing training, and ensuring adherence to service standards. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including coverage of evening and night shifts when necessary. The manager upholds a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and professionalism—protecting the integrity and wellbeing of the Willamette View community through every action taken.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred, or a combination of continuing education and at least 3 years of work experience, that provides similar skills and knowledge.
- Strong, interpersonal communication skills for dealing professionally and courteously with all residents, staff, visitors, and vendors regardless of the situation.
- Ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures.
- Ability to relate to other cultures and traditions including the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures/ethnic backgrounds and have knowledge of different cultural practices and cross- cultural skills.
- Ability to develop a sound understanding of applicable Oregon Revised Statues, associated administrative and federal laws, and provide instruction to Campus Safety and Security staff during trainings.
- Ability to create administrative policies, procedures, posting orders and guidelines as needed.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks within specific time and resource constraints.
- Ability to recognize critical security, safety, and maintenance items and make recommendations to the appropriate responsible party or organize a solution using vendors and contractors
- Ability to relay detailed information calmly, quickly, accurately, and efficiently at all times.
- Ability to supervise and manager both security personnel and emergency management coordinators.
- Familiarity with point-of-entry camera systems, camera placement and the basic functions.
- Intermediate computer skills including using word processing, presentation software, spread sheet software and purpose-made reporting software.
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to write detailed, accurate reports.
- Ability to participate and advise in the department budget including both operating expenses and capital project expenditures.
Additional Requirements:
- Maintains DPSST Unarmed Security Professional Certification and Supervisor Certification
- Maintain certification for CPR/First Aid/AED once acquired
