Position Summary
Provide instruction and support in basic and advanced techniques working with clay and glazes, manages raw materials and storage, general cleaning and maintenance of tools, equipment, and facilities. The Ceramic Technician actively engages in the creative culture of the school and models responsible use of the facilities. The Ceramic Technician will take direction from and work closely with the 3D Studio Manager to support student learning and assist faculty in the ceramic lab. Work-hours will be scheduled around curricular needs and class demands and may involve weekend hours. Maintain a clean and functional ceramics studio, provide technical assistance, supervise, and engage with students during open studio times. Assist faculty in delivering curriculum when applicable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide technical assistance, supervise, and engage with students during open studio times
- Assist faculty in delivering curriculum when applicable
- Create shop glazes and instruct students on safety protocols regarding glaze creation and application
- Maintain a regular schedule of clay recycling
- Maintain regular firing schedule and service kilns when necessary
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized shop environment
- Keep an inventory and stock of needed supplies and tools
- Maintain equipment and machinery
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Knowledge and experience working with clay and glaze techniques
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to give and receive direction & communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff
- Proactive, self-motivated, energetic, problem-solving
- Strong aptitude for equipment maintenance and repair
- Excellent supervisory and organizational skills

Understanding of institutional health and safety issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Fine Art Degree with a focus in Ceramics or Sculpture
- Knowledge working with glass and glass kilns
- Valid Oregon Driver's License
