Job description

Role Purpose

Develop, qualify, and sustain wet/dry etching, cleaning, and surface-treatment processes on glass and related substrates to enable safe, high-yield, cost-effective manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support process development and sustaining: Assist in developing, qualifying, and maintaining wet/dry chemical processes for cleaning, etching, surface treatment, coating, and related operations across multiple product platforms. Execute experiments and DOEs; collect data and prepare summaries and presentations. Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions using structured methods (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone, DMAIC) with mentoring.

2. Manufacturing support and continuous improvement: Support troubleshooting of process upsets; perform routine checks, verifications, and calibrations for critical tools and metrology. Assist with capacity expansion activities, equipment trials, and consumables/chemical qualifications.

3. Technology transfer and documentation: Help prepare and maintain SOPs, control plans, PFMEAs/FMEAs, PCPD, training materials, and compliance documents (MSDS/SDS, RoHS/REACH). Support lab-to-pilot and pilot-to-MP transfers; participate in training for receiving sites and operators.

4. Analytics and characterization: Perform basic surface/contamination measurements and coordinate advanced analytics with Materials/Analytical teams (e.g., particles, ions/metals, contact angle, roughness). Use basic statistical tools (JMP/Minitab/Excel; Python a plus) to analyze data and make data-driven recommendations for review.

5. EHS and quality: Follow EHS procedures for chemicals and gases; practice safe handling, labeling, storage, and waste disposal; participate in risk assessments and change control (MOC). Support permits-to-work, incident reporting, and routine safety/5S audits; promote a safety-first and quality-first culture.

6. Collaboration and communication: Work closely with cross-functional partners to implement solutions. Communicate status, risks, and findings clearly; escalate issues appropriately and on time.

7. Project involved with all Corning business units.

Job Selling Points:

1. Opportunity to work with new and developing business opportunities in the region.

2. Engage and work with numerous engineering teams across Corning.

3. Technology transfer and global exposure: Participate in lab-to-pilot and pilot-to-manufacturing transfers across Asia; opportunities for short-term travel/assignments to China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and other regions.

4. Career development opportunities: opportunity to in Manufacturing Excellence, Subject Matter Expert of chemical process engineering.

At Corning Incorporated, we are at the forefront of materials science, driving innovation that transforms industries and enhances everyday life. For over 170 years, our relentless pursuit of discovery has led to groundbreaking technologies in specialty glass, ceramics, and optical physics. Our journey began in 1851, and since then, we've consistently pushed the boundaries of what's possible. This commitment to innovation was evident when we developed the glass encasement for Thomas Edison's first commercially practical incandescent lamp in 1879, a pivotal moment that established Corning as a key enabler of the electrical revolution. This spirit continued with the invention of Nonex, a thermally resistant borosilicate glass in 1908, which paved the way for Pyrex® in 1915, revolutionizing cookware and laboratory equipment with its durability and thermal shock resistance. Our innovative drive extends across diverse markets. We are a leader in optical communications, having invented low-loss optical fiber in 1970, a technology that underpins the global internet and telecommunications networks. In mobile consumer electronics, our Corning® Gorilla® Glass has set the standard for damage-resistant cover glass, protecting billions of devices worldwide. We are also a crucial player in display technologies, manufacturing the precision glass essential for the vibrant LCD and OLED screens in televisions, computers, and mobile devices. Furthermore, Corning's innovations in environmental technologies include ceramic substrates and filters that are vital for emissions control in vehicles. In the life sciences sector, our products, including brands like Falcon® and Axygen®, support critical drug discovery, development, and delivery processes. Through sustained investment in research and development, approximately 10% of our revenue, and a culture that fosters purposeful invention, Corning continues to collaborate with customers to solve their toughest challenges, shaping the future with materials that are integral to how the world interacts, works, learns, and lives.
