Position Summary
The Christian Education Director will provide leadership, vision, and oversight for all aspects of the church’s educational ministries. This includes coordinating and developing programs for Sunday School, children’s ministry, youth groups, adult small groups, and seasonal discipleship opportunities. The ideal candidate will be a person of deep faith with strong organizational and relational skills, capable of inspiring others to grow in their walk with Christ.
Key Responsibilities
- Education Ministry Leadership:
- Oversee and coordinate all Christian education programs for children, youth, and adults.
- Select or develop curriculum appropriate for each age group, ensuring theological alignment with United Methodist beliefs.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer teachers and ministry leaders.
- Plan and implement special seasonal events such as Vacation Bible School and Advent/Lenten studies.
- Support and equip parents as spiritual leaders in the home.
- Program Development & Administration:
- Evaluate and enhance educational ministries regularly for effectiveness and engagement.
- Organize and promote adult discipleship opportunities, including Bible studies and small groups.
- Maintain and manage the Christian education budget and related resources.
- Supervise the upkeep and organization of educational spaces and materials.
- Create and implement new programs appropriate for various age groups.
- Congregational & Staff Collaboration:
- Work closely with the pastor, staff, and church committees to align educational ministries with the broader mission of the church.
- Communicate regularly with families and the congregation through bulletins, emails, social media, and church events.
- Maintain regular office hours and be present on Sunday mornings and at key ministry events.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and relevant church committee meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Christian Education, Theology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Demonstrated experience in leading or coordinating Christian education programs.
- Knowledge of faith formation across the lifespan.
- Strong leadership, communication, and administrative skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
- Familiarity with the United Methodist Church is a plus.
