Schedule: Wednesday through Sunday, with occasional Monday/Tuesday shifts for special services
Salary Range: $40,000 – $50,000 annually

Position Summary:Brick Presbyterian Church seeks a dedicated and dependable Sexton to play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, order, and sacred readiness of the church’s worship and programmatic spaces. This full-time position supports the ministry of the church by ensuring that all religious services—including Sunday worship, weddings, funerals, and special events—are well-prepared and supported. The Sexton also contributes to the daily operations of the church by cleaning and maintaining general areas of the facility, including classrooms used by the Brick Church Day School.Key Responsibilities:Worship and Event Support
- Prepare and reset the Sanctuary, Chapel, Vestry, Session Room, and other religious spaces for services, including:
- Setting up for Sunday worship, weddings, funerals/memorials, baptisms, and special services.
- Placing hymn numbers, updating liturgical materials, and setting seasonal decor (e.g., Advent, Easter).
- Operating or assisting with sound systems, microphones, and other audio needs.
- Ensure spaces are clean, properly arranged, and stocked with necessary items before and after each service.
Facility and Classroom Maintenance
- Perform regular cleaning and light maintenance throughout the facility, including:
- Classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and multipurpose rooms, including those used by the Brick Church Day School.
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and sanitizing of surfaces.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in accordance with childcare and school-use requirements.
- Restock cleaning and hygiene supplies as needed and report supply shortages to the Facilities Manager.
General Building Operations
- Move furniture and set up spaces for meetings, classes, and events.
- Change light bulbs, adjust lighting, and perform minor repairs (requires use of ladders).
- Secure and open the building as scheduled or directed.
- Assist with deliveries and vendor coordination.
- Notify the Facilities Manager of any major repair needs, safety concerns, or facility issues.
Hospitality and Congregational Support
- Greet and assist congregants, visitors, and guests during services and events with warmth and professionalism.
- Serve as a reliable and respectful presence during sensitive services such as memorials and weddings.
- Coordinate with clergy, musicians, and staff to fulfill service-related needs.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a church, school, or facility support role preferred.
- Familiarity with worship service logistics and maintaining sacred or formal spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work on ladders.
- Basic knowledge of sound/audio systems.
- Reliable, professional, courteous, and team-oriented.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in a liturgical or traditional worship setting.
- Background in school or daycare facilities maintenance a plus.
- Interest in supporting the mission and community life of Brick Presbyterian Church.
Schedule:Full-time, in-person position. Core schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, with occasional Monday/Tuesday work required for special services, holidays, or events. Sunday availability is essential.
Compensation: Salary range is $40,000 – $50,000 annually, based on experience. Benefits package available.
