POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Informatics Specialist will collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups, and functions as the point-person in promoting the understanding, integration, and application of information technology in healthcare settings in accordance with strategic business objectives. This role serves as a liaison between clinicians and IT professionals to facilitate a common understanding of the clinical standards and process improvement activities across multidisciplinary teams throughout the lifecycle of clinical systems. The Clinical Informatics Specialist will play a major role in the testing, training activities, and the phased implementation of information technology projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead clinical informatics projects to ensure they are planned and implemented using evidence-based practices for planning, understanding, guiding and delivering responsible and efficient patient care.
- Incorporates understanding of clinical business operations into the role of liaison between the clinical customer and technical support teams.
- Utilize the SBAR process to plan recommendations for informatics solutions.
- Leads efforts to ensure workflows/processes are current with regulatory agencies and best practice standards.
- Identifies changes to systems to comply with policies and procedures in the most efficient manner.
- Utilize data to drive process, workflow and behavior change as it relates to appropriate and efficient use of electronic medical records (EMR) and other clinical technology.
- Serves as a resource to end users for information systems and technology; effectively communicate system changes, workflow process changes, downtime procedures, etc.
- Participates in the production and distribution of communications related to technology through active internal networking, clinical liaison role, newsletters, announcements and other technology-based mechanisms to health professionals.
- Routinely conduct intentional rounding in patient care areas to gain overall knowledge of facility specific workflow, patient throughput, and challenges with technology solutions.
- Monitors outcome and evaluates user adoption of current and newly implemented information technology and functionality.
- Coordinates and develops training plans and user documentation for all clinical based systems.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week
Experience and Skills:
Education, Experience
- Previous experience involving the implementation and use of clinical information systems is strongly preferred
- Advanced education in the field of medical informatics is preferred. Experience with Meditech Expanse EHR preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program or other applicable related field preferred
