Cass Health is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Coding Specialist to join our award-winning team. As a Coding Specialist, you’ll assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for a wide range of services including inpatient, outpatient, clinic (RHC), and surgical procedures. You’ll work closely with providers, clinical teams, and revenue cycle staff to support accurate documentation, optimize reimbursement, and ensure compliance with coding and regulatory guidelines. You’ll be a key player in a high-performing revenue cycle—supported by an engaged, responsive, and experienced leadership team that values your voice and invests in your success.
What You’ll Do
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes based on provider documentation across hospital, clinic, surgical, and professional services
- Review medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency with coding guidelines
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to support documentation improvement
- Assist with claim corrections and denial resolutions
- Monitor and follow up on incomplete or deficient records
- Stay current on coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory updates
- Contribute to internal audits and quality assurance efforts
- Perform additional duties as needed to support revenue cycle goals
Key Requirements
- Required: Coding certification (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or equivalent through AAPC or AHIMA)
- Preferred: Associate degree in Health Information Technology (RHIT)
- Preferred: At least 1 year of coding experience in a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with EHR systems (Epic preferred)
- High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a team mindset
