Supervises and participates in the daily workflow of medical records coding, ensuring that coding, release of information and quality control are performed in compliance with federal, state, local, and institutional regulations. Supervises a team of approximately 20 production coders and medical office billing clerks.
- Recommends policies and procedures to maintain and improve the quality and productivity of the work unit.
- Monitors department coding productivity and accuracy standards and produces productivity and quality reports for leadership.
- Conducts the quality review of inpatient and outpatient coding; participates in root cause analysis of coding related denials.
- Interprets clinical data using working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease process and medical terminology.
- Provides support and guidance to staff with coding-related charge edits.
- Works queues and account resolutions; responds to coding-related questions from patients, providers, and clinical departments.
- Reviews, interprets, and assigns diagnostic and procedural codes based upon medical record documentation and coding principles.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:
- Eight (8) years of experience in medical record abstraction and coding is required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:
- Accreditation from a professional coding organization, such as American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is required.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED is required

Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
- Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
- Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
- Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
- Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
