Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding behavioral health records and ensuring compliance with coding standards. This role is crucial in facilitating effective behavioral health billing and reimbursement processes, while also maintaining the integrity of patient records.
Duties
- Review and analyze behavioral health records to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Ensure accurate documentation of medical terminology and coding practices to support billing processes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in documentation or coding.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and best practices in the medical field.
- Support behavioral health billing and collections processes by providing necessary coding information to billing staff.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance coding skills and knowledge.
Skills
- Proficiency in behavioral health billing systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Strong understanding of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems, as well as medical terminology.
- Experience with medical records management and documentation standards.
- Familiarity with medical office operations, including patient interactions and administrative tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate code assignment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding coding queries or issues.
- Knowledge of medical collection processes is a plus.
