Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Coffee Roastery & Café Manager to lead our coffee and community space at Night Sky Coffee Roasters. This role blends day-to-day operations, team leadership, and a deep appreciation for specialty coffee. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is excited about shaping a space where excellent coffee, sustainability, and community come together.
Key Responsibilities1. Roastery Management
- Collaborate with the Head Roaster to understand and support roasting operations.
- Maintain inventory of roasted coffee; coordinate with the roaster to align production with café needs.
- Support coffee quality by developing and maintaining dial-in profiles for different varieties.
- Ensure all roasting equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating efficiently.
2. Café Operations & Product Excellence
- Oversee daily café functions including opening/closing and shift coordination.
- Maintain high service standards and ensure smooth customer flow during peak hours.
- Manage inventory for coffee, food, beverages, and retail supplies.
- Coordinate vendor orders to ensure timely restocking and cost control.
- Monitor drink and food presentation and ensure alignment with Night Sky standards.
3. People & Team Leadership
- Hire, train, and evaluate team members with an emphasis on collaboration and growth.
- Lead and mentor Team Leads; ensure onboarding and ongoing development for staff.
- Conduct regular team meetings and provide coaching and real-time feedback.
- Promote an inclusive, respectful, and solutions-focused team culture.
4. Customer Experience & Hospitality
- Model outstanding hospitality; regularly engage with guests and gather feedback.
- Handle customer concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Champion training programs that reflect Night Sky's guest experience goals.
5. Marketing & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with the ownership and marketing team on in-house promotions.
- Organize and promote events, seasonal campaigns, and community partnerships.
- Represent Night Sky at local gatherings, tastings, and collaborative initiatives.
6. Financial Management
- Perform daily bookkeeping tasks and track sales.
- Develop and manage café budgets in coordination with ownership.
- Implement cost controls and review key performance metrics regularly.
7. Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ensure health and safety protocols are met; conduct regular audits and updates.
8. Product Development & Innovation
- Collaborate with team and Head Roaster to explore new coffee blends and menu offerings.
- Stay informed about specialty coffee trends and sustainability practices.
Qualifications
Required:
- 2+ years of café management or supervisory experience
- Proficiency in café equipment, coffee brewing methods, and POS systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
- Budgeting and inventory management experience
- Deep passion for quality coffee and creating welcoming spaces
Preferred:
- Certification in barista training or coffee roasting
- Marketing or event planning experience
- Familiarity with local health and safety standards
Work Environment
- Full-time, salaried position with weekend and holiday availability required
- Blend of physical work, administrative duties, and customer interaction
- Occasional travel for events, vendor visits, or training sessions

- Starting salary: $37,440 annually, with potential performance bonuses
