The Communications Coordinator works with the Director of Communications to develop and produce compelling multimedia and social media content, maintain and improve communications infrastructure, support development and fundraising activities, and ensure that PEC’s message reaches the right audiences.
PEC’s external communications utilize a variety of platforms including our website, social media, videos, podcasts, monthly newsletters, press releases and op-eds, and more. In that mix, we are looking for a Communications Coordinator who can focus on the operations and content of our website(s) and social media accounts while contributing to a variety of creative and administrative tasks. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for keeping the website functioning (with contractor support), and for timely publication and promotion of content.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Work with external contractors to maintain and improve the PEC website.
2. Identify and develop story ideas; research, write, edit, format, and publish web content.
3. Coordinate content planning including fundraising messaging and manage editorial calendars.
4. Compile and distribute monthly newsletter; manage email lists and release schedules.
5. Populate social media feeds with timely and relevant posts.
6. Assist with multimedia production tasks including graphic design and layout, copyediting and proofreading, photography, video, and audio work.
7. Maintain and curate digital asset libraries.
8. Monitor and prepare reports on audience metrics.
9. Support earned-media outreach and track external coverage.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Specific required skills:
- Exceptional writing, verbal communication, and organizational skill
- Experience with WordPress and functional understanding of web infrastructure, Google Analytics, and search engine optimization
- Experience managing social media accounts on behalf of an organization or business.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, or in locations other than Pittsburgh, as reasonable and necessary for performance of duties.
Desired Skills:
1. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Audition, and InDesign
2. Photography and/or videography; audiovisual postproduction
3. Graphic design and layout
4. Experience working or volunteering for a nonprofit organization or mission-driven enterprise.
