B.G. Brecke, Inc. is growing rapidly and seeking a reliable and motivated Construction Accountant to join our dedicated team. This new role will be instrumental in using vast knowledge of accounting in the construction industry. The Construction Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing all financial activities, including budgeting, job costing, financial reporting, and internal audits within the organization, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Apply job costing methodology to accurately allocate expenses and costs to specific projects.
2. Manage the preparation and completion of lien waivers in accordance with project and legal requirements.
3. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accurate reconciliation of other financial accounts as needed.
4. Track capital asset purchases, including large equipment and vehicles, for proper depreciation accounting.
5. Support and coordinate internal audits related to workers’ compensation, local unions, and other compliance areas.
6. Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including loan reconciliations, depreciation schedules, and labor accruals.
7. Develop and maintain reporting tools to monitor outstanding items, job status (open/closed), and accounts receivable hold lists.
8. Oversee accounting functions for three subsidiary entities, ensuring accuracy and consistency in financial reporting.
9. Provide general accounting support, including downloading and organizing financial and loan statements, retrieving bank information, and performing data entry in spreadsheets as required.
This is NOT a remote position and requires you to be on-site Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with the opportunity for some flexibility.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of experience in accounting required.
2. Experience in union, trades, construction, or manufacturing accounting and ERP software a plus.
