Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our preconstruction team and play a critical role in our continued growth. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse, challenging projects while being part of a collaborative team environment that encourages professional development and career advancement.


Key Responsibilities


Project Analysis & Estimation

  • Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services
  • Evaluate project scope, timeline, and complexity to identify potential risks and opportunities
  • Develop competitive yet profitable bid proposals that align with company standards and client expectations

Vendor & Subcontractor Management

  • Solicit and evaluate bids from qualified subcontractors and suppliers
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners and vendors
  • Negotiate pricing and terms to optimize project profitability while maintaining quality standards
  • Conduct thorough bid analysis and provide recommendations for subcontractor selection

Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Stay current with local market conditions, material pricing trends, and labor costs
  • Monitor competitor activities and pricing strategies in the Indianapolis market
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and standards

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations teams to ensure estimating accuracy
  • Present estimates and recommendations to senior management and clients
  • Support business development efforts through accurate and timely proposal preparation
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives

Required Qualifications


Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of commercial construction estimating experience
  • Proven track record with projects ranging from $1M to $50M+ in value

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in estimating software (experience with Building Connected, ProEst, or similar platforms preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and construction-specific applications
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards
  • Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Greater Chicago construction market
  • Knowledge of local building codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements
  • Professional certifications (AACE, ASPE, or similar)
  • Experience with lean construction principles and collaborative project delivery
  • Background in multiple construction sectors (commercial, industrial, healthcare, education)
