Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our preconstruction team and play a critical role in our continued growth. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse, challenging projects while being part of a collaborative team environment that encourages professional development and career advancement.
Key Responsibilities
Project Analysis & Estimation
- Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services
- Evaluate project scope, timeline, and complexity to identify potential risks and opportunities
- Develop competitive yet profitable bid proposals that align with company standards and client expectations
Vendor & Subcontractor Management
- Solicit and evaluate bids from qualified subcontractors and suppliers
- Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners and vendors
- Negotiate pricing and terms to optimize project profitability while maintaining quality standards
- Conduct thorough bid analysis and provide recommendations for subcontractor selection
Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Stay current with local market conditions, material pricing trends, and labor costs
- Monitor competitor activities and pricing strategies in the Indianapolis market
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and standards
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations teams to ensure estimating accuracy
- Present estimates and recommendations to senior management and clients
- Support business development efforts through accurate and timely proposal preparation
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives
Required Qualifications
Experience & Education
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 3 years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Proven track record with projects ranging from $1M to $50M+ in value
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in estimating software (experience with Building Connected, ProEst, or similar platforms preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and construction-specific applications
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the Greater Chicago construction market
- Knowledge of local building codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements
- Professional certifications (AACE, ASPE, or similar)
- Experience with lean construction principles and collaborative project delivery
- Background in multiple construction sectors (commercial, industrial, healthcare, education)
