MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. Leadership experience
related to the education of emergent bilingual students (English learners) is required. A valid Bilingual and/or English as a
Second Language (ESL) Texas teaching certificate and a valid Texas Administrative or Mid-Management certification is
preferred. Five (5) years of successful Dual Language and/or ESL classroom teaching experience in urban schools with diverse
student populations is preferred.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires:
- Administrative leadership skills, including the ability to effectively manage a team and supervise a team.
- In-depth knowledge of Dual Language program design and instructional practices, Texas Essential Knowledge, and Skills
- Knowledge of Austin ISD, State, and Federal policies, rules, and regulations as they relate to the education of emergent
- Effective written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Ability to coach adults, design and facilitate effective professional learning, evaluate performance, provide, and receive
- Proficiency with technology, including Google Apps and Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively and efficiently, organize and maintain records, and analyze data.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
This position is responsible for collaborating within the Multilingual Education Team, with other members of the Office of
Academics and the Office of School Leadership, and with campus administrators and instructional coaches to strengthen
implementation of effective high quality Tier 1 instruction for emergent bilingual students by leading program development,
campus support systems, professional learning, coaching, and data-informed decisions. This position is responsible for data
collection, data analysis, and data reporting for the department. This role serves as a key strategic partner to the Director of
Elementary Multilingual Education and is responsible for ensuring instruction is rigorous, inclusive, and responsive to the
academic, linguistic, and cognitive needs of emergent bilinguals. Incumbent must ensure that District bilingual/ESL programs
are implemented in alignment with Chapter 89 of the Texas Administrative Code to prioritize the academic, linguistic, and
cognitive needs of students identified as emergent bilingual (English learners).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate within the Multilingual Education Team and with other members of the Office of Academics, the Office of
district initiatives and priorities.
- Supervise and coordinate the collaborative work of the Multilingual Education Specialists to ensure consistent, high
emergent bilinguals.
- Facilitate the professional learning of Multilingual Education Specialists related to Dual Language and/or ESL program

- Make recommendations to the Director of Elementary Multilingual Education regarding project and campus
- Lead projects related to:
and tools for communicating program elements.
o identifying, developing, and evaluating appropriate Dual Language and/or ESL instructional resources at the District and
campus levels.
o developing and implementing protocols and tools for classroom observations and collection of data regarding program
implementation for purposes of improvement and program evaluation.
o designing and facilitating professional learning at the District and campus levels increases effectiveness and improves
- Support the work of Multilingual Education Specialists to:
o facilitate District- and campus-level professional learning.
o develop the capacity of campus leadership teams related to program implementation, including observing and
improving instructional practice, professional development, family engagement, data analysis, staffing, scheduling,
and other instructional and logistical decision-making.
o organize, analyze, and disaggregate District and campus data to identify priorities, set performance goals, and monitor
progress.
- Support District family engagement efforts related to emergent bilingual students and Dual Language and ESL programs.
- Review and disseminate information on current research related to Bilingual/ESL education, adult learning, coaching, and

- Represent and support the District’s strategic plan, instructional philosophy, frameworks, and curriculum in all aspects.
- Attend and support Multilingual Education and District special events.
- Serve on District committees as assigned.
- Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that
promote a culture of respect.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned. Additionally, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare
situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

required for this position.
