Position Overview:
The Coordinator of Intramurals and Youth Programs manages the day-to-day implementation of student focused competitive and recreational sports programming opportunities along with a comprehensive summer youth camps program for the department of Recreation and Wellbeing. This position oversees the administrative functions and management of policies, programs and services that impact and enhance student life, department goals and learning outcomes. They provide leadership by recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating student Intramural Program Assistants, Officials, and Youth Camp Counselors. They assist with equipment purchases, development of policies and procedures related to risk management and onsite supervision of Intramurals and Youth Camps. This position will assist with scheduling and sustainability of outdoor facilities, fields, and equipment by supporting set standards of safety and guiding preventative maintenance programs. This position will collaborate and create partnerships on and off campus to enhance student recreational needs and support student development through strategic planning and assessment.
Required Experience:
- Experience within recreation and sport programs or the recreation program development field
- Supervising, training, hiring, and evaluating sport officials and recreational programming staff
- Officiating sports
- Evaluating and assessing program methods
- Developing, recommending, and evaluating program and operation procedures and recommending change
- Proficiency with recreational program management software
- Performing work independently to create programs and services
- Using computer software and applications for word processing and database management
- Planning, developing, and producing events and special projects
- Providing programs and improvement recommendations
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree in recreation administration, sport management, exercise science, higher education, physical education or business
Required Other:
- Ability to travel, work weekends, after regular business hours and holidays
- Ability to achieve First Aid and CPR instructor status with American Heart Association within 6 months of hire
Additional Preferred:
- Masters degree in recreation administration, sport management, exercise science, higher education, physical education or business
- Member of NIRSA or relevant professional organizations
- Experience administrating, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services with an ongoing focus on industry current evidence-based intramural programming
- Experience developing and running youth programs like day-long and summer-long educational camps or activities
- Experience in student development through fundamental principles, theories and models
- Demonstrated success developing and managing budgets
- Experience with adaptive or therapeutic recreation programming to ensure effective delivery of sport programs and services
- Demonstrated experience administering risk management practices for youth and/or recreation programs
- Demonstrated success in development and implementation of youth and/or recreational programs
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing approximately 50 pounds
