The Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office is currently accepting applications for a full-time Coordinator, Victim Assistance Center, based in Mayville, NY.
This position is responsible for administering the County's Victim Assistance Center and delivering comprehensive services to individuals who have been victims or witnesses of crimes. The Coordinator serves as a key liaison among the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, community agencies, and state and federal victim services organizations.
This appointment will be made on a provisional basis, pending the outcome of a future Civil Service examination for this title.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and direct the operations of the County Victim Assistance Center through the District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with human service and criminal justice agencies.
- Provide social work support to victims and witnesses of crime.
- Develop and implement individualized case plans for victims and witnesses.
- Recruit, supervise, schedule, and train staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Develop training modules and facilitate ongoing education for hospitals, victim agencies, and community organizations on compensation, victims’ rights, and available services.
- Train police academy students, law enforcement supervisors, and District Attorney staff on the prevention and reduction of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).
- Engage with statewide initiatives such as the Statewide Targeted Response to Intimate Partner Violence (STRIVE), and remain current on developments within the NYS Office of Victim Services, Federal Office for Victims of Crime, and NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly program and fiscal performance reports to funding agencies.
- Assist with grant writing and budget preparation for the Victim Assistance Program and STRIVE initiatives.
- Monitor and manage subcontract grants financed through the NYS Office of Victim Services.
- Develop outreach strategies to locate and assist victims of crime.
- Prepare monthly STRIVE briefings and present statistical data to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with community partners to develop and implement jurisdictional strategies for IPV response.
- Assist victims and witnesses in preparing victim impact statements and in-court testimony.
- Aid in the completion and submission of claims to the NYS Office of Victim Services.
- Accompany victims to court proceedings, including arraignments, preliminary hearings, grand juries, and trials.
- Provide information, referrals, and follow-up services to victims of all crimes.
- Act as liaison between the District Attorney, law enforcement agencies, and crime victims.
- Keep victims and witnesses informed about the defendant’s legal status and assist with notification program registration.
- Maintain detailed case documentation and victim service records.
- Conduct confidential interviews on behalf of Assistant District Attorneys as assigned.
- Accompany victims to in-person parole board interviews at the NYS Office of Parole in Buffalo.
Minimum Qualifications:
Either:
A. Possession of a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a closely related field, and three (3) years of experience providing counseling or casework services to clients in an agency performing corrections, human services, parole, or probation services;
OR
B. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of experience as described above.
Additional Requirement:
Ability to meet the regular transportation requirements necessary to carry out fieldwork assignments at the time of appointment and throughout service in this classification.
