The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is looking for hardworking, dedicated, and enthusiastic candidates to join our team as a Correctional Counselor-C.O. at the Hampden County Correctional Center (Main Institution). We seek individuals committed to guiding, supporting, and uplifting the men in our care and custody as they work towards rehabilitation and successful reintegration into the community.
As a Correctional Counselor-C.O., your primary responsibilities will involve a combination of direct care, counseling, and program development aimed at the rehabilitation and successful reintegration of inmates. Establishing and maintaining trust-based counseling relationships with inmates is a core component of the role, focusing on enhancing their institutional adjustment and rehabilitation. Through personal interviews and confidential information, you will analyze each inmate's needs, recommending realistic institutional and community-based programs that align with their goals for reintegration. You will conduct in-depth interviews with inmates to assess their social, vocational, and educational backgrounds, using this information to determine their individual needs and create tailored service programs. You will design, develop, and facilitate treatment and educational classes or groups daily for the inmate population, ensuring the necessary resources such as handouts and visual aids are provided. As required of all Correctional Officers, you will be responsible for the safety, security, and supervision of inmates, ensuring a secure environment.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm; One evening shift (TBD) 12:00pm - 8:00pm; Must be able to work any shift as directed.

REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully pass the physical fitness and psychological tests for this position,
- Attend and successfully graduate from our 12-week Western Mass. County Correctional Officer Academy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to assess needs and develop positive relationships with individuals in correctional settings.
- Compassionate and professional approach to counseling and rehabilitation, with a commitment to helping individuals prepare for successful reentry into society.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various departments, community organizations, and individuals.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and any shift as directed.
