The AstraZeneca Mt. Vernon site was established in 1972 and is the flagship site delivering innovative, life changing oral solid medicines. At the site we formulate and pack OSD tablets and capsules for over 60+ markets. The Mt Vernon site is complex, the largest AZ production site in the US with over 700+ employees. We are located in the southwest corner of the state of Indiana, approximately 15 miles from Evansville, Indiana – the third largest city in the state. The Mt. Vernon site is both collaborative and Inclusive. As a Data Scientist, you'll be at the forefront of transforming data into actionable insights using statistical, machine learning, and AI methodologies. Your role will involve preparing and analyzing both structured and unstructured data, developing advanced modeling algorithms, and presenting findings in a way that drives business decisions. You'll collaborate directly with business users to understand their needs and develop strategies that ensure impactful insights. - Establish strong relationships with PETs, Supply Chain, Quality, IT, and Data Analytics teams to understand business needs and deliver digital projects on time.
- Plan and prioritize site digital use cases, facilitating business analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Translate complex business problems into model and algorithm solutions.
- Develop a robust understanding of AZ data sources and work with suppliers to enhance analytics capabilities.
- Actively participate in the Digital Lighthouse team and stay updated on trends in analytics and data science.
- Influence local stakeholders on priorities and resource commitments.
- Support digitalization strategies aligned with MTV OPS strategic plans.
- Conduct business benefit analysis on potential digital projects.
- Provide oversight of local and global initiatives around digital solutions.
- Execute work in compliance with GMPs, site policies, and SOPs.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following Health and Safety policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Automation or related science).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in software development, data engineering, data analytics or data science.
- Manufacturing background and understanding.
- Experience in machine learning using unsupervised and supervised methods.
- Knowledge of analytical techniques for deriving knowledge from unstructured text.
- Use of Data Science modeling tools (e.g. Python, Dataiku, Snowflake, SAP HANA, SQL).
- Experience with visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, PiVision) and storytelling with data.
- Familiarity with modern software engineering practices (e.g. GitHub, Jira).
- Data manipulation/preparation skills including SQL and Python.
- Credibility with the business through operations domain knowledge.
- Hands-on experience interrogating real-world datasets for insight.
- Ability to explain complex methods to non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience creating and deploying digital solutions in manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Lean methodologies including process mapping and continuous improvement.
- Strong engagement, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
