If you are looking for an exciting opportunity to advance your career in facilities management and have experience managing complex facilities, the Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) wants you! The UDC is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to join the management team of UDC to serve as the Deputy Director of the Facilities and Maintenance Bureau, to manage and direct the bureau.

Principal Duties
As the Deputy Director, you will:


  • Set goals, establish priorities, manage resources, develop concepts and approaches, review project progress and results, and make management decisions.
  • Develop and coordinate plans and policies, resources, and mission as well as goals, vision, and expectations of the agency or program; prepare and update plans and priorities.
  • Develop budgets including fund allocation, revenue collection, budget projection, expenditures, etc.
  • Work closely with the department and other state agencies to plan, implement, monitor, etc., the progress of projects.
  • Supervise staff, delegate work assignments, monitor/review quality of work, schedule staff, provide technical assistance or training, and/or provide input on performance appraisal, hiring, and discipline.
  • Develop key performance indicators and drive the program to high work output with quality results.
  • Work with community partners outside of UDC where applicable.
  • Partner with other divisions and bureau directors as required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position has:
  • High-level management experience in facilities management.
  • Proven and demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Skills and experience with construction, architecture, and building functions.
  • Knowledge of specialty skilled trades.
  • An understanding of correctional facilities.
  • Knowledge of state processes and procedures.
  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Experience managing large projects and keeping them on time and within budget.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be able to drive long ranges (Ogden to Gunnison)
  • Able to work five days a week for 8 hours each day.
Preferences
Preference will be given to applicants with:
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Any construction/maintenance trade-specific certifications (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, electrical, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience working with engineers and building construction management.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS)
:

  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.


Paid Time Off
:

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
  • We have 12 paid holidays.

Supplemental Information

  • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g., working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
  • The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas.
  • Valid driver's license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA 53-3-202(1)(a).
