Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.
KIND seeks a Development Coordinator, Individual Giving. This role is responsible for helping to reach fundraising goals by providing project coordination and administrative support to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Individual Giving team. This role reports to the CDO. This a headquarters position based remotely from any location in the U.S.
This position is contingent upon continued funding.
Essential Functions
- Individual Giving Team Support
- Serves as the first point of contact for general outreach to the development office, field inquiries to colleagues as appropriate.
- Provides support in written communications to donors and prospects.
- Assists with prospect research, as needed.
- Assists with preparing and sending major donor mailings and appeals.
- Supports Individual Giving team in moves management process and prospect tracking through database input and reports.
- Liaises with Salesforce Manager to support quarterly portfolio reviews of gift officers.
- Maintains and updates KIND’s GuideStar profile, Charity Navigator, Matching Gift Profiles, and other giving platforms.
- Manages thank you note process for individual donors, including tribute letters.
- Prepares presentations, fact-sheets, and other major donor-facing materials.
- Administrative Support
- Schedules appointments, meetings, and manages the Chief Development Officer’s calendar.
- Prepares agendas, take minutes, and ensure smooth logistics and follow up.
- Edits documents, presentations, reports, and other materials.
- Database Support
- Performs routine data pulls as needed for reports, analysis, events, and mailings, liaising with Salesforce Manager as needed.
- Pulls weekly pipelines and task reports to keep gift officers on target.
- Adds new donor information, including adding new donor accounts and contacts, on behalf of the Individual Giving team.
- Inputs contact reports on behalf of Individual Giving team.
- Ensures accuracy of data via periodic cleanups.
- Other database organization and support as needed.
- Fundraising Event Support
- Prepares invitation lists and support invitation strategy, track RSVPs.
- Coordinates participation of special guests.
- Serves as onsite event support person when appropriate.
- Serves as main point of contact for all local, peer-to-peer fundraising events.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Undergraduate degree preferred, or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience including managing CRM databases (preferably Salesforce).
- Ability to interact professionally with board members, major donors, and senior staff with poise and discretion.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to communicate our mission and programs in a compelling and concise manner.
- Ability to work at night or on weekends when required, with advance notice (<5%).
- Ability to travel as assigned (<5%).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
- Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles.
- Demonstrate discipline and adaptability to effectively deliver on our core mission of ensuring access to justice and safeguarding children’s well-being and rights.
- Ability to multitask and work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

- Experience working and communicating in a remote environment preferred but not required.
