Position Overview
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will play a critical role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities by promoting independence, personal growth, and inclusion. You will assist with daily living activities, implement individualized support plans, and engage in both home and community-based activities based on the participant’s preferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and increasing independence.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized program goals.
- Plan and facilitate engaging community and home-based activities centered on participant choice.
- Provide personal care, hygiene assistance, and basic nursing support as needed.
- Accurately observe, document, and report on individuals’ behavior, health status, and progress.
- Promote dignity, respect, and the rights of every individual supported.
- Collaborate with fellow DSPs and substitute when needed to ensure continuous quality support.
- Participate in training sessions and follow all organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Valid Driver’s License (Required)
- Reliable transportation (Required)
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and registry search
- Must obtain and maintain certification in behavior management, First Aid, and CPR
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of developmental disabilities and related conditions
- Familiarity with Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) settings (preferred)
- Ability to provide respectful, person-centered care and support
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to follow program guidelines and individualized support plans
- Basic math and documentation skills
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience providing care, training, or support to individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
