Overview
Several NJ families are seeking a direct support professional for a home-based adult with developmental disabilities.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. This position involves providing compassionate care and support to the client, ensuring their needs are met while promoting independence and dignity. The DSP will work closely with client to facilitate daily living activities, encourage social interactions, and assist with personal care tasks in the home and/or in the community.
Duties
- Will provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities in some/all of the following: daily living activities, including personal hygiene and meal preparation, socialization
- May assist with meal preparation and helping the individual at mealtimes.
- May assist with sleep routines.
- May support individual with daily activities including leisure and recreational activities, and community outings.
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues.
- Document all services provided in accordance with state and federal regulations using the Therap app.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance care giving skills.
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is required.
- Previous experience in home health or care giving settings is required.
- Strong observational skills to monitor clients' health and well-being effectively.
- Compassionate demeanor with excellent communication skills to interact positively with clients & their families.
