GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Workforce Planning and Development is a strategic leader responsible for designing, developing, and executing comprehensive enterprise-wide workforce strategies that ensure Henry Ford Health has the talent necessary to achieve its strategic objectives and deliver exceptional patient care. This role provides leadership and oversight to a team of Workforce Development Consultants and plays a critical role in forecasting future talent needs, identifying skill gaps, and developing innovative programs that foster continuous learning, career mobility, and a thriving culture of growth across the organization. The Director will build and nurture high-impact partnerships with internal stakeholders, academic institutions, community organizations, and workforce development agencies to create robust talent pipelines and champion Henry Ford Health as an employer of choice. This position is vital in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where team members can build extraordinary careers.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all workforce planning and development initiatives across the enterprise, aligning them with the organization's long-term goals and talent strategy.
  • Oversee and guide a team of analysts and program managers, ensuring the effective support and implementation of regional strategies and programs.
  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide framework for conducting comprehensive workforce needs assessments, analyzing current and projected
    talent gaps, industry trends, and demographic data.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with senior leadership, Human Resources, learning and development, and other key internal stakeholders to identify critical talent needs and champion integrated solutions.
  • Cultivate and expand strategic partnerships with a broad network of external stakeholders, including universities, community colleges, vocational schools,
    community-based organizations, workforce development agencies, and industry leaders, to build diverse and qualified talent pipelines.
  • Direct the design, development, and evaluation of innovative workforce development programs, such as enterprise-wide apprenticeship programs, internships, scholarship initiatives, and comprehensive career pathways, ensuring scalability and impact.
  • Collaborate closely with Talent Acquisition to develop and implement proactive recruitment strategies that attract top talent for current and future roles.
  • Partner with Learning and Development to ensure that training programs effectively address skill gaps, promote professional growth, and support internal career advancement.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance Henry Ford Health's employer brand and value proposition, positioning the organization as a leader in talent development and a preferred employer.
  • Develop and implement robust metrics and evaluation frameworks to measure the effectiveness and ROI of workforce development programs, utilizing data to inform continuous improvement and strategic adjustments.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure significant grant funding and other external resources to support and expand workforce development initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, staying abreast of national and global trends and best practices in workforce planning, talent development, healthcare workforce challenges, and innovative learning methodologies.
  • Prepare and present high-level reports, strategic analyses, and recommendations to executive leadership and the Board on workforce development progress, outcomes, and future initiatives

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Education, Public Health, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in workforce development, talent management, or a related HR discipline, with a significant portion of that experience in a large, complex organization, preferably within the healthcare industry or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing a team of professionals.
  • Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and scaling enterprise-wide workforce development programs that have demonstrably impacted talent acquisition, retention, and growth.
  • Extensive experience in forging and managing strategic relationships with educational institutions, community organizations, government agencies, and industry partners.
  • Proven track record in securing significant grant funding or external resources for workforce initiatives.
  • Experience in strategic planning, organizational design, and change management.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP) or other relevant professional certifications (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
