Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented per diem Dispatcher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in coordinating transportation logistics, ensuring timely bus routes, and maintaining efficient communication between drivers and passengers. This position requires strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of logistics.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for coordinating Transit Dispatch per diem, scheduling Stepsaver / Demand Response, interacting with the operations and maintenance staff, and provide customer support services. This position is responsible for fielding incoming calls or in-person questions regarding MTA / CART transit bus system. Booking Paratransit and Demand Response rides into a computer aided scheduling software. Selling fare media by phone, internet or in-person using the fare box and cash/credit card systems. Managing downtown transit bus operations such as on-time departure, assisting with passenger transfers, driver and vehicle operations. Provide basic travel training.

WORK SCHEDULE
Monday - Saturday work as needed
JOB DUTIES
- Open or close the transit operations office
- Provide 2-way radio and phone support
- Track daily employee attendance
- Cover open schedules as needed
- Maintain daily communication with operators in the field
- Respond to customer telephone inquiries in a timely manner
- Coordinate with maintenance on vehicle availability and communicate driver issues as needed
- Collect passenger information on Stepsaver/Demand Response service requests
- Coordinate field operations during emergencies
- Ensure driver compliance with USDOT Drug and Alcohol related to fitness for duty
- Issue paychecks as needed
- Provide backup weekend dispatching as needed
- Drive transit or school routes as needed
- Assign vehicles to routes as appropriate
- Maintain lost and found records and item tracking
- Data entry as needed
- Input accurate payroll records
- Schedule next working day Stepsaver / Demand Response trips and publish manifest for operators
- Supervise affiliated employees and ensure compliance with all MTA policies.
- Ensure driver fitness for duty
- Cross train to cover school dispatch as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school degree, equivalent or greater
- Knowledge of local streets
- Interpersonal skills, experience in Supervisory role, preferred
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
- Ability to prioritize tasks and service coverage effectively
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and entered in a random drug screen pool
- Possession CDL-B, Passenger Endorsement, School Bus Certificate, Air Brake, DOT Medical Card preferred
- Previous dispatch experience, preferred
- Understanding of our transit system, preferred
- Ability to work independently, only supervisor during non-business hours
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Ability to operate a standard business computer, advanced technology experience preferred
- Ability to use an electronic street map to provide navigation
- Ability to operate a radio communication device

COMPENSATION
- Hourly Rate – Starting at $29.00
- Paid Holidays
