Job Title: Educational Design and Technology (EDTech) Specialist

Reports to: Vice President of Academic Affairs
Work Schedule : 40hours/week
Summary of Responsibilities:
In support of Western Theological Seminary’s mission to “form women and men for faithful Christian ministry and participation in the Triune God’s ongoing redemptive work in the world,” the EDTech Specialist provides technological training and support for the creation, design, and implementation of the curricular and co-curricular educational formation work of regular, adjunct, and Hispanic Ministries Program faculty.
Essential duties and responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):
- Support and guide all faculty, including adjunct faculty, from appointment through completion of course(s), including orientation, Learning Management System (abbreviated below as LMS, currently Canvas) training, syllabus review, course creation and design, and best practices for course engagement for the MDiv and MA degree programs and the certificate programs.
- Train and onboard new faculty members in the process of teaching at WTS regarding their usage of the current LMS.
- Train, onboard, and orient all new students to WTS and LMS. This includes supporting the development and dissemination of Online Orientation.
- Provide reliable and consistent DL student support. Create and supervise systems of student support that are proactive for the unique needs of DL students.
- Build and run data integrations between SIS (Blackbaud) and LMS, where possible.
- Manage all aspects of LMS administration, creating policies to ensure a high level of productivity, usability, and security.
- Administer all aspects of user accounts and course creation within the LMS.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to system functionality, software systems, user logins, and course access.
- Maintain the ticketing system Knowledgebase and monitor tickets.
- Perform a yearly audit of LMS users in conjunction with a yearly SIS audit.
- Suspend LMS access for students with past due accounts.
- Support all sub-account administrators
- Research and implement innovations, upgrades, updates, and additions to LMS and other applications utilized within LMS.
- Manage Zoom accounts.
- Provide technological support (predominantly livestreaming support of Zoom and A/V) for classroom instruction and co-curricular events supervised by the Academic Office

- Demonstrate dexterity in learning new technology, computer programs, and application (especially including Canvas and the tools used within Canvas – DesignPLUS and Studio).
- Demonstrate the ability to design and develop courses.
- Understand database software and its maintenance
Qualifications:
- Demonstrable mature Christian faith and commitment to ministry and service
- Commitment to the mission of WTS and its identity as an institution of theological education.
- 3-5 years of work experience that includes evidence of excellent communication, organization, collegiality, and initiative.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.).
- Experience with digital and web applications required.
- Experience or capacity for learning how to manage learning management systems.
- Experience or capacity for learning instructional design.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
