Primary Purpose:
Provide curriculum leadership and support classroom teaching to ensure aligned and articulated instructional program in the subject area assigned. Ensure instructional strategies and interventions are evidence-based and designed to improve academic achievement for disadvantaged students.
Education / Certification:
1. Valid Texas teaching certificate
2. Master’s degree in education administration or curriculum and instruction is preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
1. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
2. Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.
3. Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness.
4. Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners.
Experience / Other Requirements:
1. Five years experience as a classroom teacher.
2. Experience with technology applications.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management
1. Provide leadership and expertise in the overall instructional program of the District.
2. Remain current in fields of curriculum and staff development through attendance at state and national conferences and research of current literature in the areas of innovative instructional strategies and best practices.
3. Conduct meetings with District and campus instructional leaders for the purpose of feedback, input, and recommendation.
4. Serve on various advisory committees and planning teams.
5. Collaborates with instructional coordinators and campus instructional coaches in their efforts to facilitate the vertical articulation of the program PK- 12 and coordinates their efforts to lead and support campus personnel in implementing an effective instructional program, including the Title I, Part A program.
6. Utilize a variety of ways to involve District faculty in the development of instructional programs and strategies as per the District Improvement Plan.
7. Review and evaluate campus instructional programs and recommend modifications when appropriate.
8. Develop, revise, and support implementation of District-wide curriculum based on local, state, and national curriculum standards.
9. Coordinates the review and revision of curriculum documents annually to reflect state standards and the state assessment plan as well as the District-developed curriculum scope and sequence.
10. Coordinates the evaluation and selection process for textbooks in accordance with District policy, and collaborates with the District Textbook Coordinator and with publishers’ representatives in the acquisition of adopted instructional materials including the annual reordering of consumable resources.
11. Assists campus administrators with the evaluation and selection of supplementary materials, software programs, equipment, and furniture to support effective classroom instruction.
12. Ensure instructional strategies and interventions are evidence-based and designed to improve academic achievement for disadvantaged students.
13. Plan for and provide effective staff development that is based on research and best practices, supports the District curriculum, and incorporates the vision and mission of Comal ISD.
14. Support the development of campus experts through staff development in content, responsive instructional practices, and assessment development.
15. Analyze student assessment data and feedback from staff as a method to assess current and future staff development needs.
16. Coordinates the professional growth opportunities of content area teachers by coordinating the planning, presentation and evaluation of professional development programs, workshops, and seminars.
17. Provides support to novice and/or struggling teachers including classroom coaching, and demonstrations appropriate to various levels of instruction.
18. Coordinate development of District-wide assessments consistent with the District assessment plan.
19. Provide leadership in addressing the challenges facing the profession.
20. Prepare, maintain, and present all information, reports, and records as required.
21. Collaborate with other personnel in a collegial, supportive manner.
22. Represent the District with regard to the instructional program at city, regional, state, and national meetings, committees, and conferences.
23. Pursues grant opportunities to support the instructional program including grant writing and/or administration as recommended by the District grant writer.
Staff Development
24. Plan and present to campus and District staff professional development consistent with Title I, Part A Program, District initiatives and best practices.
25. Serves as a resource to campus administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community agencies.
26. Seeks, evaluates and responds to evaluates and responds to evaluative feedback from teachers, administrators, peers, supervisors, and other professionals.

27. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
28. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
