Community Unit School District 308 is seeking a qualified and committed Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to support students across two elementary schools—Prairie Point and Churchill. This full-time position is split equally between both buildings and plays a vital role in delivering specialized services to students with hearing loss.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction aligned to IEP goals for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Use American Sign Language (ASL) fluently in instruction and communication with students
- Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse communication needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families
- Support students in using assistive technology such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM systems
- Monitor student progress and maintain all required documentation
- Teach self-advocacy, communication strategies, and social-emotional skills
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a DHH endorsement
- Degree in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience with hearing assistive technology and inclusive practices
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
