This position serves as the assistant to the Lead Engineering Technician and may serve as the primary/lead inspector for construction projects in the Construction Section of the Department of Transportation and Development, District 04, Unit -254, and reports directly to the Engineering Technician 7.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Inspection/Area of Certification
Monitors construction signage for compliance with Departmental requirements.
Inspects contractor construction procedures to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality assurance.
Collects required samples and tests materials that are to be included in the project.
Performs soil densification tests using nuclear density machine.
Receives profile data and evaluates pavement surfaces to determine longitudinal surface acceptability.
Takes all pertinent measurements including but not limited to length, width and depth verification.
Office Duties
Indexes.
Labels and itemizes pay items in the project document records.
Recapitulates project document records for final audit. Computes and validates project quantities.
Obtains additional training as needed or required.
Uses computer engineering applications as required by Departmental policy.
Design Of projects
Collects field data including cross sections, draws field sketches and calculates quantities related to Standard Departmental Design practices.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Engineering Technician 1,2,3, or 4.
Compensation:
Engineering Technician 1 - The starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
