Are you passionate about immigrants' rights? Do you find foreign languages and cultures of interest? Have you ever wondered how our legal system operates?
Hollithron Advocates, P.C., an immigration solo law practice based in southeast Denver, is seeking two legal assistants to join our small but dedicated team in July and August 2025. We defend noncitizens in Immigration Court (both in and out of detention) up to and including appeals or petitions to the federal circuit courts of appeals, help citizens and lawful residents legalize the immigration status of their loved ones, assist victims of persecution in their native countries and of crimes committed here to tell their stories and obtain protection (e.g., asylum, special immigrant juvenile status, or a u visa), and guide lawful permanent residents through the process of becoming citizens of the United States. For our clients who live in Colorado, we also offer criminal defense services on a case-by-case basis and can assist eligible children and young adults in obtaining the state court orders they need to start the legalization process.
This is a challenging but rewarding position that will provide you a real opportunity to improve and even save the lives of those who need it most.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with client intake
- Carefully drafting applications for immigration benefits under attorney supervision
- Obtaining and reviewing evidence from clients according to the attorney's instructions
- Accompanying the attorney to hearings and interviews and running business-related errands
- Ensuring that submissions to courts and government agencies comply with all formatting and technical requirements
- Maintaining business and client files, including written records of all actions taken on each case
Prior legal or administrative experience is preferred but not required.
Proficiency in a foreign language is useful but not necessary for this position.
The ideal applicant:
- Is meticulous and attentive to detail, especially when reviewing multi-page government forms with convoluted language
- Can quickly change directions as deadlines and priorities suddenly shift
- Is receptive to constructive feedback
- Will be sensitive to the difficulties clients may have in following instructions, whether because of trauma or for cultural reasons
- Can maintain a calm, professional demeanor with colleagues and clients under the sustained high pressure of immigration work
- Is proficient enough with English grammar and usage to write letters to clients and effectively communicate with courts or government agencies
- Is comfortable with technology, especially the Apple Macintosh, advanced formatting in Microsoft Word, and the creation of PDF documents
This is an entry-level position that begins with a 90-day trial period. If, at the end of the period, all parties agree that this job is a good fit, permanent employment, including an increase in salary and other benefits such as health insurance or retirement plans, can be negotiated.
In addition to a résumé, applicants must upload a cover letter detailing their interest in this position. This cover letter will serve as a writing sample, so applicants should not rely on third parties for drafting. Cover letters should be addressed as follows
