Job Summary:
Natural aptitude with handling numbers, analyzing figures, and organizing costs is necessary. Candidates must read complex blueprints and must be able to quickly understand and visualize construction drawings. We require a high level of personal organization, initiative, and a team-oriented approach. All employees are to be ambassadors for company’s highest ethical, quality, and professional standards.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Review project specifications, bid documents and structural steel notes.
2. Prepare structural steel material take-off per company estimating computer program and calculate shop labor.
3. If required, perform material take-off for miscellaneous steel items and calculate shop labor of those items.
4. Write proposal letter to contractors for supplying materials to the project listing materials supplied and items excluded.
5. Transmit bid documents to vendors for take-off and pricing of metal decks, bar joists and miscellaneous metals.
6. Prepare budget estimates by analyzing conceptual drawings per contractor’s request.
7. Attend pre-construction/bid meetings.
8. Review estimate and plans with company Project manager after job is sold.
9. Provide feedback to subcontractor and material suppliers to allow them to better serve our needs.
10. Solicit pricing of erection of structural steel, joists, and metal decks from erection subcontractors.
11. Enter structural steel take-off into company estimating system and run reports as required.
12. Some travel time required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Required: Bachelor’s degree. Some knowledge of interpreting architectural and structural drawings prepared by architects and design engineers. Knowledge of computers. Some construction field experience helpful. Good writing, verbal skills and ability to multi-task.
Preferred: Company computer software and hardware for estimating: Word, Excel, Bluebeam & Tekla EPM experience.

Pay: $59,212.40 - $71,309.55 per year
