Position Summary
The Executive Director is a skilled nonprofit leader who provides strategic vision, direction, and oversight for the council, serving as a key representative of Girls on the Run to the public and stakeholders. This role involves leading organizational development and planning, optimizing financial performance, overseeing program delivery across the territory, developing donor relationships, and managing staff. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and Girls on the Run International, ensuring alignment with the mission and strategic goals.
The Executive Director fosters organizational growth through strategic leadership, sound operational practices, and collaborative relationships both internally and externally, advancing Girls on the Run International's mission.
Position Profile
The Heart of Missouri Girls on the Run® Executive Director must be deeply committed to empowering girls in 3rd through 8th grades. Girls on the Run utilizes a dynamic curriculum that integrates physical activity with life skills education, focusing on goal setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect. The program culminates in a celebratory 5K event, reinforcing the lessons learned and celebrating achievement. The Executive Director oversees all aspects of local program implementation and operations, reporting to the local Board of Directors. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, organizational leadership, financial management, fundraising, program oversight, staff supervision, and community engagement.
Program Development & Staffing
● Maintain an effective staffing structure; recruit, train, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
● Develop and implement programming, events, and services aligned with the mission.
● Collaborate with the Board and staff to lead strategic planning and direction.
● Build and nurture relationships with coaches, donors, families, sponsors, and volunteers.
● Oversee the execution of two 5K events annually.
● Represent Girls on the Run at public events and as an ambassador of the brand.
● Establish systems for program evaluation and report outcomes to the Board and stakeholders.
Organizational Administration
● Ensure compliance with all applicable nonprofit regulations and Girls on the Run International guidelines.
● Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to support organizational operations.
● Provide administrative support to the Board, including coordinating meetings and committee work.
● Plan for infrastructure growth in alignment with program expansion.
● Serve as a media spokesperson and cultivate community and media relations.
● Promote ethical standards, accountability, and best practices in operations.
● Maintain open communication with the Board and Girls on the Run International.
Fund Development
● Lead and manage fundraising strategies, including donor cultivation, sponsorship, grant writing, and special events.
● Collaborate with the Board and development team to implement an annual development plan.
● Build and maintain community partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
● Negotiate vendor contracts to support efficiency and effectiveness.
Finance
● Ensure strong financial health and management of the council.
● Maintain sound internal controls and financial reporting systems.
● Assist in developing and managing the annual budget with the Board and Treasurer.
● Monitor financial performance and trends; identify areas for improvement and develop forecasts.
Report regularly to the Board on financial activities and outcomes.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging in strategic activities and taking a hands-on role in program execution and administrative issues.
● 3–5 years of demonstrated experience in organizational leadership or nonprofit management
● Proven ability to build and lead effective teams
● Passion for the Girls on the Run mission and understanding of issues related to empowerment, self-esteem, and holistic health
● Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences
● Experience managing budgets and financial forecasting
● Strong organizational and decision-making skills
● Flexible and adaptable work style
● Experience with strategic planning
● Familiarity with Girls on the Run or similar youth development/wellness programs
● Nonprofit management and fundraising experience

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 28 – 35 per week
