General Functions:
The Family Mentor implements the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum with CITC program enhancements to support Alaska Native and American Indian families with children from prenatal to age five. This position manages a caseload of 5-15 families, conducting home-based educational activities, developmental screenings, and family assessments to strengthen parent-child relationships and promote optimal child development. Working in partnership with our people, the Family Mentor develops opportunities that fulfill our endless potential by empowering parents as their children's first teachers and connecting families to community resources. The role requires strong relationship-building skills, cultural competency, and dedication to supporting families through evidence-based home visiting services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum, incorporating CITC's program-specific enhancements and supplemental materials.
- Manage a caseload of 5 to 15 families, based on the intensity of services each family requires.
- Conduct family-centered assessments by facilitating interactive, developmentally appropriate educational activities and observing participant engagement and behavior.
- Establish collaborative partnerships with parents to individualize ongoing goal setting throughout eight foundational visits and beyond.
- Implement or coordinate health and developmental screenings covering vision, hearing, language, motor, and physical development for children within the first three months of service.
- Conduct adult screenings within the first three months of services that assess depression, substance use, intimate partner violence, economic stability, and overall family functioning.
- Facilitate participants' access to community resources by making referrals and conducting follow-ups to confirm service engagement.
- Provide support for monthly parent group connection meetings and any related program events.
- Maintain case records by objectively documenting participants' situations and actions in home visit reports, attendance summaries, and program-specific data following prescribed MIS format.
- Complete required certification training for the Parents As Teachers model and obtain certification.
- Participate in all required and annual professional development activities mandated by the program model.
- Ensure organizational compliance by submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports on time.
- Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as needed and assigned.

- Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities and needs.
- Proficient with computers including word processing, email communication, internet resourcing, spreadsheets, and case management systems.
- Demonstrated understanding of child development and parent education.
- General knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
- Flexibility in work schedule required to meet participant needs.
- Regular travel required to conduct home-based activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Two (2) years of experience in service delivery providing services to children or their families.
- Valid Alaska driver's license and insurable under CITC's automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver's license for at least three years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in delivering home-based services.

- May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.
- The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
