Summary:
The Family Support Coordinator works directly with the Family Support Team to provide Family Support Services in the Greater Taunton/Attleboro area, participates in relevant training opportunities and reports to the Director of Family Support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field (preferred) and two to five years of experience in the field, working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and with families. Other qualifications include working knowledge of resources, benefits, and services; good communication and organization skills; ability to make sound clinical decisions; and a commitment to working as a team member.
Job Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Protect the rights and dignities of individuals supported and extend those rights and dignities to family members and guardians.
- Understand and implement through working with families the Principles of Family Support and having working knowledge of DDS’s guidelines for Family Support.
- Utilize “Charting the LifeCourse” frameworks to facilitate and support person and family centered planning.
- Work with families to encourage active family involvement and to identify families’ strengths; provide consultation to identify interests and needs for purposes of developing activities and service options; provide information regarding generic resources and services; and work with families to maximize their natural support.

- Family Trainings
- Family Networking and Support
- Community Connections & Resources
- Service Navigation
- Administration of Flexible Funding
- Maintain standards related to individuals’ and families’ privacy and HIPAA regulations including obtaining releases of information.
- Collaborate with community resources and services, State Departments, disability specific services to determine how best to meet the needs of families/individuals.
- Provide support to families during transition periods of time such as from early intervention to school or from child to adult service systems.
- Assist families in recruitment of family managed staff and provide information regarding tax responsibilities to these families.
- Represent The Arc of Bristol County, Inc. while in the community in a positive and professional manner; consistently communicating the agency’s philosophy and mission. This includes interactions with all stakeholders: individuals, family members/guardians, community partners, etc.
- Adhere to the Direct Support Professional Code of Ethics.
- Follow all agency and department specific policies and procedures.
- Maintain the timeliness of submission and ensure accuracy of all required documentation.
- Provide assistance with emergency respite placements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
