Stephen Johnson Framing is a locally owned frame shop specializing in framing fine art for galleries, museums, and individuals. We pride ourselves on creating elegant and meticulously crafted framing solutions for a wide variety of clientele, while providing the best customer experience possible. We are a small, tight-knit team that thrives on close cooperation and individuality.
We are looking for a Fine Art Framer to join our team. A successful candidate will be incredibly detail oriented, enjoys working with their hands, and has a willingness to learn about the trade. A big part of this position requires safely handling artwork and storing it according to shop procedure. No experience handling artwork or framing is necessary, however it is beneficial.
All training regarding power tools, how to frame, properly handle and store artwork will be provided!
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Properly and carefully handling artwork according to shop procedures.
- Taking accurate measurements using measuring tape in order to cut, join, and assemble a variety of moulding types, acrylic, and mat boards to given specifications
- Fitting artwork into frames using proper techniques and materials provided, following shop procedure consistently and accurately
- Safely using power tools/machinery to complete jobs (including but not limited to: drill and driver, mitre saw, Wizard mat cutter, under-pinner, heat press, nail gun, etc.)
- Ensuring all framed artwork is packaged, labeled, and transported properly once complete and all work orders are filled out neatly and accurately
- Communicating with front office personnel and Lead Framer to ensure frames are completed according to clients requests and timeline
Requirements:
- Has a positive can-do attitude and desire to learn about framing (No experience framing required!)
- Must be highly detail oriented and take pride in your work
- Must be able to take instruction, learn from feedback, and be an active listener who is comfortable asking questions
- Must be patient when things get tough
- Must be able to use various power tools safely
- Ability to lift 40+ lbs
- Ability to stand for long periods of time at workstation
- Valid driver license
Preferred but not required:
- Experience handling artwork
- Experience with wooden fabrication or carpentry
Job hours are Monday - Friday 9am-5pm and every other Saturday 11am-2pm
48 hours a week is expected when necessary throughout the busy season.
All employees are compensated for overtime on Saturdays.
Starting pay range is $15-20 per hour, based on experience
