Physical requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibrations. Must be 18 years of age, but not older than 45 at time of employment and must be a US citizen.
Certification: Emergency Medical Technician Certification and possession of a valid driver’s license without a history of suspension or revocation is required.
Job Summary: The firefighter will engage in activities required to protect life and property by engaging directly in firefighting, emergency care, hazardous materials, and fire prevention assignments. Firefighters will maintain equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
Perform firefighting activities including driving apparatus, operating pumps and other equipment, laying hose, performing fire suppression tasks, keeping records, and making reports.
May perform basic life support, medical activities, and provide other assistance as required.
Participate in fire drills and classes in firefighting, emergency medical, and hazardous materials subjects.
Receive and relay calls and alarms.
Operate radio and various communications equipment.
Participate in the inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other features of the fire prevention program.
Maintain equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
Perform minor repair to departmental equipment.
Assist in developing plans for special assignments such as emergency preparedness, hazardous materials, training programs, firefighting, and emergency care activities.
Present programs to the community on safety, medical, and fire prevention topics.
Perform salvage operations (i.e. throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, and debris removal.).
Perform general maintenance in the upkeep of facilities and equipment, care for grounds, make minor repairs, wash, clean, polish, and test equipment before and after use.
Perform other related duties as required.

Emergency rescue and treatment procedures, basic life support techniques, and their application.
