Description
Full-time position overseeing the foaling program and care of mares and newborn foals at Valley Equine. Duties include monitoring mares, assisting with deliveries, providing immediate post-foaling care, maintaining medical and breeding records, and supervising daily routines for mares and foals. Requires extensive hands-on experience with foaling, neonatal care, and equine health management.
Employment will begin in December 2025.
Responsibilities
- Monitor mares daily and manage foaling schedule
- Assist with deliveries and provide emergency support as needed
- Provide immediate neonatal care, including administering plasma, colostrum, medications, and initial treatments
- Maintain accurate foaling, health, and medical records for mares and foals
- Communicate with veterinarians regarding foaling, postnatal care, and medical issues
- Oversee feeding, turnout, and general care of mares and foals
- Identify and respond to medical concerns promptly
- Ensure barn facilities, stalls, and foaling equipment are prepared and maintained
- Coordinate with breeding staff regarding mare status and post-foaling care plans
- Communicate with owners the status of mares and foaling information
- Assist with yearling sale prep during the foaling offseason.
Qualifications
- Significant foaling and neonatal horse care experience required
- Veterinary technician or equine reproduction background strongly preferred
- Strong horse handling skills, including emergency foal assistance
- Ability to recognize signs of foaling, dystocia, and neonatal health issues
- Proficient in record keeping and communication with veterinarians and staff
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work in high-pressure situations
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Physical stamina and mobility, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting as part of daily duties.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
