Generator Technician
Location: Houston, TX
Type of Employment: Full-Time
Education/Experience: Five years of successful generator experience including knowledge of various generators, equipment, and controls, etc.
Travel: 50 - 75%- Travel Required (Continental US) – travel expenses (lodging, travel, etc.) will be
covered by Client
Job Duties Include (but aren’t limited to):
- Complete repairs and service on power generating systems (750-2250kw), motors, electronic controls, programmable logic circuits (PLCs), graphical user interfaces (GUIs), and high voltage producing equipment from manufacturers like Caterpillar, Cummins, Generac, Trane, Kohler, Carrier, etc.
- Acquire all parts, labor and materials necessary to complete repairs, service and maintenance
- Obtain approval and any necessary paperwork for maintenance with proper personnel
- Schedule and coordinate any required maintenance with proper personnel
- Perform any and all inspections and maintenance during performance of preventive maintenance (PM) per the manufacturer's standards and in accordance to the standard operating procedures
- Provide the required coordination, supervision, and inspection for load bank testing
- Able to clearly explain the scope of work requirements of generator preventative maintenance contracts to upper management per the manufacturer's standards and in accordance with the contract requirements
- Promptly coordinate responses to emergency service calls
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and report any issues that arise
- Collaborate with business development on various tasks
- Assess potential generator opportunities for RJY Group to pursue
- Assess potential subcontractors for RJY Group to work with
- Help generate information/responses to generator opportunities and bids
- Stay up to date on new generators requirements and procedures
- Makes modifications to diesel generator systems, including installation of pre-heaters; battery chargers; fuel systems and other related diesel parts.
- Makes wiring modifications to diesel control circuits and electrical apparatus specific to the diesel standby system. Investigates, diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs diesel standby and transfer switch system
- problems.
- Performs preventive maintenance including checking for leaks, worn parts, taking oil samples; orders and installs replacement parts; adjusts, calibrates and inspects the operation of auto transfer switch equipment.
- Prepares records of repairs, maintenance, parts ordered and parts used.
- Documents modifications to system.
- Transports equipment, tools and fluids to and from work sites; operates and maintains equipment, tools and safety devices which are designed to lift, move, transport, repair, inspect, measure or protect.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to meet federal security standard to gain access to facilities
- Operation and maintenance of various types of diesel, gasoline, natural gas, and propane fueled generator sets or similar equipment
- Five years of successful generator experience including knowledge of various generators, equipment, and controls, etc.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- A strong team-player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Physically able to perform all necessary job responsibilities
- OSHA Certification (30 hr preferred)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.10 - $30.82 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
