Position overview
Position title: Global and Community Health Pre-six Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,872-$12,281 (based on salary points 1-12). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring units instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2025 through fall quarter 2026. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position Description


The Global and Community Health (GCH) Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers. Applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas are invited to apply: COVID (from an interdisciplinary perspective) and health communication including writing, review and website development. Please review our program's courses can be viewed in the UCSC General Catalog.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

Successful applicants may be appointed to teach courses that either: 1) teach students from across disciplines to examine the medical, cultural, and public health concepts necessary in a post-COVID world; 2) teach GCH seniors about e-portfolio webpages that will comprise their capstone "GCH e-Record" designed to communicate their disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning in their degree to a specific audience beyond the university; or, 3) lead a collaborative & interdisciplinary student group to conduct rigorous research on real world health challenges with a view to describing the associated problems accurately and recommending responses.

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: MPH; DrPH; or PhD in public health, infectious diseases or communications.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)
  • Master of Public Health (MPH) degree; or M.A./M.S. degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., global health, community health, health sciences, etc.); or a professional degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., M.D., MSN, NP, NE, etc.). Equivalent foreign degrees will be considered.
  • Teaching experience.
