Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years’ experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; Page 4 of 7 OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field. Other: Driver’s license is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Working knowledge of wildlife and habitat management principles, goals, objectives and techniques including hunting, ecological principles, and species’ life histories, and habitat needs. Extensive knowledge of damage control including tools and techniques to alleviate or solve depredation involving species such as elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorn, turkeys, geese and mountain lions. Knowledge of techniques to address wildlife depredation to agriculture production. Use of communication skills to effectively communicate during sometimes contentious conversations with individuals and groups experiencing economic loss from wildlife damage. Knowledge and ability to plan both in the short-term and long-term to effectively address wildlife depredation and develop new strategies and tools to effectively address wildlife damage issues. Ability to react and work in high-stress public safety/public relations situations where quick decisions are required. Basic knowledge of budgeting processes and record keeping systems. Solid computer skills, especially Microsoft Office and ArcGIS. Ability to communicate effectively, plan, set goals, prioritize work and be self-motivated. Ability to perform heavy physical labor; work outdoors for long periods of time; work outside normal business hours such as early mornings/late nights and weekends; fly as a passenger in small aircraft for purposes of depredation work; maintain and distribute depredation tools; operate and maintain various tools including firearms, trucks, atv’s and trailers. Ability to guide the work of others and develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and constituents.
