Job Description:
Coordinate wildlife planning efforts including the identification and evaluation of wildlife habitat resources and significant issues affecting those resources. Assist in developing strategies for Agency response. Develop and enhance working relationships with other public and private resource organizations (NRCS, FSA, USFWS, USFS, UNL, NRDs, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, The Nature Conservancy, Crane Trust, etc.) that will result in coordinated resource management partnerships. Coordinate, evaluate and report on monitoring efforts related to habitat and access program offerings while also coordinating with UNL Co-op and other research efforts.
Provide technical assistance on habitat enhancement techniques to landowners and organizations. Develop public information strategies related to habitat programs.
Assist with Section budget preparation and the identification of statewide
program policies.
Provide direct supervision to employees to effectively accomplish the above duties.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND four years’ experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND two years’ experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field.
Other: Driver's license required for work-related travel.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough working knowledge of wildlife and habitat management goals, objectives and techniques, ecological principles, and species’ life histories and habitat needs. Basic knowledge of budgeting processes and record keeping systems, and pertinent computer skills including ArcGIS, Excel, Word and Power Point. Ability to communicate with the public and agency staff, supervise others; plan and prioritize work.
