Grounds management with emphasis on tree, shrub, and turf care; operational safety procedures; diagnosis of plant pest problems; the safe use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides used regularly; rainbird irrigation systems and controllers; and leadership techniques and supervisor theories.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Responsible for the grounds of Womack Army Medical Center and 31 outlying clinics
- Directly supervisors up to 15 employees.
- Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Assigns and reviews work duties of the grounds crew to ensure work is done in a safe and productive manner.
- Oversees tree & shrub maintenance operations and makes recommendations for changes, improvements, and equipment.
- Requests proposals, reviews costs/benefits, and purchases goods or services with project manager approval.
- Attends staff meetings and other required training.
- Cooperates with other departmental personnel in completing assigned tasks.
- Retains contractors and coordinates their work.
- Assures timely completion of work requests and preventative maintenance.
- Oversees irrigation operation, schedules, and maintenance, and coordinates annual start up and shut down procedures.
- Provides safe environment by supervising and coordinating the removal of snow, ice, leaves, fallen branches, and other weather-related debris and trash.
- Oversees application of chemicals & fertilizers evenly and accurately as instructed on product labels as part of an integrated pest management plan.
- Remains u to date and informed on current landscaping maintenance practices.
- Coordinates maintenance and repairs on grounds vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains an appropriate inventory of materials, chemicals, and equipment.
- Maintains SOS records on chemicals.
- Required to work outside normal schedule due to seasonal events, weather conditions, and operational requirements.
- Essential personnel during inclement weather
- Reviews and approves timesheets and vacation scheduling of grounds personnel.
- Conducts disciplinary actions and documentation on grounds personnel as needed meeting the CBA & corporate guidelines.
- Provides documentation and reports on the grounds activities as requested by project manager and facility management division.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior experience in landscaping supervision
- Extensive experience commercial landscaping, turf, or horticultural experience.
- Previous experience with irrigation repair or installation.
- Ability to read plans, prepare estimates, and perform physical manual labor for completion of landscape projects
- Proficient with written and verbal communication
- Knowledge in pesticide application
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Post high school education in an agronomic field of study
- Pesticide Applicator License
- Certified plant professional
- Landscape Contractor License
