THE VACANCY:

There is currently one opening in the Maintenance and Operations Department. This position is full-time on the supervisory salary schedule working 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Administrative Director II, Maintenance and Operations, plan, organize and direct the construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of district grounds and athletic fields; formulate and develop assigned unit goals and objectives; manage and inspect work of assigned personnel and direct unit activities; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in landscape management, facilities management or related field and five years recent increasingly responsible grounds maintenance experience including at least three years in a Lead or Supervisory Grounds Maintenance capacity.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.

The supplemental questions to the application will be reviewed and rated for certification. These questions are required at the time of application and are qualifying.

An eligibility list will be established for successful candidates which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the list.

The virtual written exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 30th. The virtual Qualifications Appraisal Interview is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 7th. Job Responsibilities

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Plan, organize and direct the construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of district grounds and athletic fields; plan, organize and direct district grounds maintenance functions; assure efficient and cost-effective departmental operations; organize, coordinate and direct activities related to maintenance and operations functions to assure economy, safety, effective communications, efficient use of equipment and supplies and appropriate appearance and condition of buildings, grounds and vehicles.

Confer with maintenance, custodial and groundskeeping supervisory personnel regarding methods and procedures of work, supply and equipment requirements and operational problems and conflicts; resolve existing problems and determine future requirements of personnel and materials; confer with school officials regarding department issues. Inspect work in progress at various sites to ensure proper methods are being followed and standards are maintained.

Oversee the district’s tree trimming and tree management program. Direct personnel and contractors for tree trimming, maintenance, inspections, planting and removal.

Assist in the management of district facilities use; develop facilities use practices, facilities inventory, facilities use contracts and other applications; communicate with local park and recreation departments, city office personnel and various civic groups regarding the use of facilities.

Develop, plan and oversee pest control activities. Ensure that all pest control activities are in line with district’s integrated pest management plan, utilizing industry best practices.

Develop, plan and oversee programs for proper year-round maintenance and operation of school grounds, athletic fields, artificial turf and surfacing, running tracks and related grounds activities; develop and oversee preventative maintenance program for grounds equipment, including small and large engine equipment, electric and gas powered utility carts.

Direct and prepare specifications for ground renovation, construction and maintenance bids; consult with and advise administrators, principals on the design, construction and alteration of school grounds.

Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions.

Provide technical expertise, information and assistance regarding assigned grounds construction and maintenance functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs.

Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to personnel and assigned activities.

Communicate with district and site administrators and personnel, regulatory agencies, architects, engineers, inspectors, contractors, vendors and others concerning facilities maintenance and operations services. Communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.

Assist in the development, coordination and preparation of the annual preliminary budget for the grounds maintenance division of the Maintenance and Operations Department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.

Operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned; drive a vehicle to conduct work as assigned.

Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned develop and conduct in-service training programs.
