Groundskeeper Job Description: Top Duties and Qualifications

We are a family looking to hire a person who loves beautiful lawns as much as we do. We have a nice farm property we need to have a full time person on site to maintain to our standards.
This isn’t a sit around and do nothing type of thing, this is for the person who takes pride in their work and loves beautiful lines in the yard, nice aesthetics, and is looking to be free of all the BS in a conventional job.You’d be working directly with the owner of the property. Looking for a Groundskeeper, or Caretaker, that loves nice yards and would be responsible for maintaining an aesthetically-pleasing and functional outdoor space plus handy around the house. Their duties include planting flowers and shrubbery, mowing lawns and communicating with the property owner to determine their vision for the space.
Groundskeeper Duties and Responsibilities
This position would be a full time salary position 40 hours a week. The Winter months would be lighter hours then Spring months would pick up and Summer and Fall would be 50 hours per week. Some of the duties of a Groundskeeper, or Caretaker are:
- Mowing the lawn - We have the equipment.
- Trimming hedges and trees - not much of this but sometimes is needed.
- Edging along all paved surfaces as well as bed borders
- Maintaining the appearance of the front of the property
- Preparing outdoor areas for various weather conditions by weatherproofing, covering outdoor furniture with tarps, tying down unsecured items, etc.
- Maintaining gardens and lawns, including planting, fertilizing, weeding, soil conditioning, mulching and applying pesticides
- Operating and maintaining garden and landscaping equipment
- Pond maintenance and winterizing of the fountains and pumps;cleaning leaves and debris out of the water feature
- Be able to fix items around the house - light handyman duties
- Plowing snow as needed - we have the equipment
Groundskeeper Skills and Qualifications
The ideal Groundskeepers, or Caretaker should be able to do:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Familiarity with sprinkler systems and other landscaping equipment
- Pond Maintenance Experience
- Knowledge of gardening techniques
- Knowledge of gardening products such as fertilizers and pesticides
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods of time
- Truck is a plus
- Valid Driver’s License a must
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
