JOB TITLE: Head Alpine Race Coach

DIVISION: Snowsports Teams

REPORTS TO: Teams Manager

LOCATION: Solitude Ski & Ride School

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/ Seasonal (Winter)/Hourly

PAY RATE: $28.88

POSITION:

The Head Alpine Race Coach is responsible for oversight of the Solitude Race Teams and Jr. Development Team programs. They will oversee a team of coaches and competition crew members to deliver high quality training and performance in USSA competitions. Our programs predominantly work with children ages 6 to 17 (U8 - U18) in the disciplines of Slalom and Giant Slalom. The right candidates will possess an organized work style, display enthusiasm and professionalism, and support team members to excel in their roles. This position requires exceptional communication skills, understanding of how to help athletes and parents establish seasonal goals, and the ability design strategies to attain them.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Available throughout the winter season including weekends, holidays, and evenings October through April. Additionally, available for specific spring/summer training camps as needed.

  • Advanced level skiing skills and knowledge.

  • Level 200 USSA certification required (300 preferred) or the ability to obtain them during the season.

  • Experience as an athlete in an organized US Ski and Snowboard club, or high school program. Competition experience at the US Ski and Snowboard and/or FIS level is a plus.

  • Multiple seasons coaching for an organized USSS race club, or high school program.

  • Familiarity with US Ski and Snowboard training programs, such as Skills Quest.

  • Familiar with current USSA rules, equipment requirements and judging criteria.

  • Experience with Alpine race equipment, course setup, timing systems and athlete drills

  • Excellent people skills are required to effectively communicate with athletes, parents, other coaches, mountain employees and guests on the mountain.

  • Have high standards for safety in all training environments.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assist with all Teams department operations

  • Train and schedule Coaches

  • Conduct athlete assessments and assist coaches with grouping

  • Provide weekly, monthly and season-long training plan

  • On-snow management of Jr. Development, Development, and Performance Race teams, up to U18 athletes

  • Manage race hill, racecourses and fencing

  • Equipment supervision i.e., drills, fencing, gates, radios etc.

  • Maintain accurate records; release of liability, race forms, USSA memberships, travel expenses

  • Assist athletes in registering for events.

  • Excellent communication with parents, athletes and management

  • Provide feedback and coaching daily to athletes, maintain lesson plans and logs, and submit written year end evaluations on each athlete.

  • Manage coach time and pay

  • Oversee the competition crew to set and maintain practice racecourses

  • Maintain accurate records, assure compliance with policies, and manage finances

  • Communicate any needs to perform job exceptionally to leadership

  • Lead coaches' meetings, briefings, and other professional functions as directed by the Teams Manager.

  • Establish and review mutual seasonal goals and performance objectives with each coach, providing feedback and support.

  • Assure that all facilities and equipment are properly maintained and stored.

  • Shoot video and conduct video analysis sessions with athletes regularly.

  • Manage staff performance by delivering recognition, coaching, disciplinary action, and seasonal evaluations

  • Travel may be required for regional IFSA competitions. Company vehicles will be utilized for transportation and reimbursements will include necessary gas, food, and lodging.

  • The primary outdoor environment requires tolerance to exposures such as cold, snow, wind, rain, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, extreme terrain, lightning, etc...

  • Strenuous physical activity requires excellent physical fitness and may include skiing in all possible variable snow conditions and hiking in challenging terrain with equipment.
