Job Title: Head Athletic Trainer, South Bay Lakers

Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the Head Athletic Trainer for the South Bay Lakers is to manage player performance and medical activities—this is inclusive of injury evaluation and treatment, injury prevention, return to play planning and execution, and nutrition. The Head Athletic Trainer will track player injuries and keep team staff and leadership informed, while ensuring that players see appropriate physicians, surgeons, or sub- specialists as needed. The Head Athletic Trainer will direct care coordination and lead communication with team medical and performance staff. Secondary responsibilities of the Head Athletic Trainer comprise assisting with team travel logistics and ticket operations. The Head Athletic Trainer will collaborate with the LAL performance and medical staff regarding the overall welfare and medical treatment of assigned NBA players and two-way players training with, and competing for, the South Bay Lakers.

Technology Capabilities
Location: El Segundo (offices M-F and UHTC facility/arena for all SBL home games), all away games, and other off-site events (as needed)
Travel: Up to 50% of the time (approx. 26 away games)
Hours: Regular office hours (9am- 5:30pm M-F), plus overtime (when needed) is mandatory; must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays
The pay range for this role is $70,000 - $85,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications. In addition to those factors, we consider the relative pay of our current employees in similar positions when making a final offer.

Effectiveness in providing care for players, building trust, and positively impacting player performance
- Individual focus on player injury prevention, rehabilitation and general well-being
- Conduct base movement screenings to identify any movement dysfunctions that could contribute to player injuries
- Report and keep up-to-date records on all injuries
- Timely document and maintain accurate records in the team and league EMR systems
- Track inventory of all athletic training medical supplies and replete as needed
- Follow NBA G League pre-participation physical examination and all other league regulations
- Represent SBL at League meetings
- Coordinate team meals with team chef and order locker room snacks and beverages
- Ensure meals meet nutritional goals
- Provide select players with nutritional supplements
- Work with physicians to create nutritional supplementation plan
- Create all braces and casts needed, or coordinate with vendors for the provision of such equipment
- Schedule and coordinate transportation to doctors’ visits, dentist, or any medical treatment (e.g. mold for mouth guards, prescription pick up, etc.)

Complete and submit required documentation for work comp claims
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or similar field (required)
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or similar field (preferred)
- DPT/Board Certified Physical Therapist (a plus)
- BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer (required)
- Certified member in good standing with the NATA, CATA, or equivalent organization (required)
- Current certification in at least one of the following (required): Basic Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or Advanced Trauma Life

Other related credentials and certifications preferred, such as: Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
Technology Capabilities
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records

Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Windows)
- Broad fund of knowledge of basketball, general health and sport-specific medical issues affecting basketball players, and experience rendering appropriate treatment; proficient in managing and executing emergency medical care
- Strong rehabilitation experience/ skills
- Past experience with manual therapy
- Outstanding organizational and leadership skills
- Exceptional on-scene problem solving – ability to make tough, quality decisions in a fast-paced and stressful environment
- Great multi-tasker, with the ability to prioritize and simultaneously juggle multiple projects
- Demonstrated ability to present the utmost professionalism and highest ethical code
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate effectively with different audiences
- Competent in use of computer programs including EMR system, and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience in athlete management system such as Smartabase preferred.
