Towns Of is a local app built for suburban communities, giving residents one place to find nearby headlines, upcoming events, and updates from verified organizations. Along with local news, it provides event hosting tools that act as community infrastructure, making it easier to promote and share what’s happening locally.
We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to join as a Founding Engineer (equity first role) and help lead product development from the ground up. You’ll own the technical vision and build across the stack—from front-end to back-end—while shaping the architecture and infrastructure of our platform. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact as the first technical leader, working closely with the founder to bring new features to market and scale the product.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering strategy and full-stack development for the Towns Of app + web platform
- Build and maintain scalable front-end (React/React Native) and back-end systems (Node.js, Firebase, or similar)
- Own technical architecture, infrastructure decisions, and code quality standards
- Recruit and mentor future engineers as the team grows
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience as a full-stack developer (React/React Native, Node.js, databases, APIs, cloud hosting)
- Experience building consumer-facing apps or social/community platforms preferred
- Comfortable with ambiguity, speed, and ownership
- Strong product intuition and ability to balance short-term execution with long-term scalability
- Excitement about being part of a founding team and building something from the earliest stages.
