Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Coordinates with team members to assure patients are seen and treated in a timely manner.
- Secures patients' confidence and cooperation during procedures.
- Sets Up Equipment, Determines Technical Factors, and Sets Controls Operates Equipment & Assists Medical Staff with or Performs Diagnostic Procedures.
- Assist medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions.
- Adjusts, adapts, and operates specialized equipment and accessories needed for difficult procedures.
- Handles Clerical, Administrative Support, Coordination Requirements & Maintains Records.
- Receives and directs patients, answers routine inquiries and makes referrals.
- Reinforces patient health and discharge education as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Expected to perform a wide variety of clinical tasks, such as: Observe, report, and record general and specific physical and behavioral signs/symptoms of change in a patient's condition. Recognize the implication of a change in condition.
Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm, 11:00am-7:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm; Work schedule may include weekends, holidays, evenings and non-tour of duty shifts.

Physical Requirements: The variety of duties requires regular and recurring periods of sitting, walking, standing, carrying items, typing, writing, as well as lifting heavy, sometimes immobile patients. The incumbent is expected to utilize good body mechanics and have stamina to withstand a stressful environment.

This occupational series 0640 has an individual occupational requirement, which requires applicants to meet the described experience below:
Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: 1) Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. 2) Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on the job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues. 3) Knowledge of medical information and/or terminology related to the diagnoses, treatment, and prevention of human injuries and diseases. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions and preventive health care measures. Understands and uses medical, surgical and/or dental terminology.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-06 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a successful completion of at least One half year of graduate education (9 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to the work of the position to be filled.
OR
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-06 level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position.
To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-06. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
