Cristo Rey Jesuit offers a rigorous college preparatory education available to students of limited economic resources in the Houston area. A unique Corporate Work Study Program places student in Houston businesses and nonprofits where they learn the expectations of the corporate world and earn up to 50 percent of the cost of their education. Cristo Rey Jesuit belongs to the national Cristo Rey Network of schools and the national Jesuit Schools Network.

The Job: The Assistant Principal is an essential academic leader on campus, supporting faculty, students, and parents. Assistant Principals are primarily responsible for overseeing programming to support the academic learning, achievements, and behavioral needs of students. This includes dynamic, solutions-oriented support for students, providing outreach to families, and keeping faculty accountable for instructional and professional responsibilities. As a Cristo Rey Jesuit administrator, the Assistant Principal seeks ways to teach and model being men and women for others. They set and maintain high expectations, interact in a positive and caring way with students and faculty, and take an active position in celebrating the Catholic and Jesuit beliefs of Cristo Rey Jesuit.

Responsibilities: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

● Promote a learning environment of high expectations that contributes to the students’ success, builds community, engages families, promotes accountability, develops staff and celebrates growth.

● Oversee programming and faculty/staff to support the academic learning, achievements, and behavioral needs of students.

● Develop a knowledge of TCCB-ED requirements.

● Intentionally build relationships with students.

● Hold students to high expectations, including but not limited to grades, behavior, uniforms, tardiness, absences.

● Analyze data related to grades, attendance, behavior, etc., and create strategies to resolve identified issues.

● Build rapport with parents/guardians, and conference with parents/guardians about failing grades, behavior, uniforms, tardiness, absences, etc.

● Utilize a restorative approach to student behavior issues, including coordinating Accountability Councils.

● Regularly meet with the Principal and other admin to find solutions for academic, behavior, or other concerns.

● Support the planning and goal setting for grade levels, and ensure alignment with school-wide vision and goals.

● Manage Athletic Director and Student Life Coordinator

● Effectively plan to meet goals through prioritizing, establishing systems, managing time effectively, and coach direct reports and faculty to do the same

● Coach and evaluate teachers

● Support teachers and help maintain a positive morale

● Other duties may include managing additional faculty/staff or other duties as assigned

● A commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development

Education and/or Experience:

● Master's degree and

● 18 credit hours in educational administration and supervision courses *or participating in a master's degree program and 18 hours in educational administration and supervision* or a valid state certificate for a principal.

● Internal Candidates will be considered if pursuing the above requirements.

● Proficiency in Spanish highly preferred

● 3+ years teaching experience in marginalized communities preferred

● 2+ years leadership experience in a high school serving marginalized communities preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

● Behavior management

● Evidence of deep knowledge of curriculum organization, effective pedagogy, and assessment

● Quickly build rapport with students and parents

● Manage relationships with teachers well

● Detail oriented

● Able to work in a fast-paced environment

● Willing to adapt to a small, communal culture

● Practice collecting, analyzing, and using data to guide action

● Commitment to personal/professional integrity and moral character

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

● Regularly interact with students, parents, staff and visitors.

● Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.

● Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
