Position Summary

Highway Maintenance Worker I - $15.96 - $23.94 / hourly:
Entry level position, performs maintenance on County roads and bridges. Work involves performing semi-skilled tasks to maintain roads and bridges and related public works structures. Duties include operating equipment, traffic control set-up, and safe driving skills.

Highway Maintenance Worker II - $17.56 - $26.33 / hourly:
Performs maintenance on County roads and bridges. Work involves performing semi-skilled tasks to maintain roads and bridges and related public works structures. Duties include operating equipment, traffic control set-up and safe driving skills. Possess and maintains CDL.

What You Will Do

Highway Maintenance Worker I:
  • Assists with manual and mechanized patching of road surfaces.
  • Operates county trucks and weed mowers; performs vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure a safe operating condition.
  • Assists with concrete work to include pouring, forming, and finishing.
  • Carries out traffic control procedures.
  • Assists with the installation of drainage structures including culverts; cleans culverts and adjacent areas of dirt and debris as needed.
  • Completes tasks in support of road maintenance including, but not limited to, carpentry work, fence installation, painting, tree trimming, grounds maintenance, refuge removal, and weed mowing/control.
  • Monitors and accounts for materials usage.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
Highway Maintenance Worker II:
  • Operates various equipment such as weed mowers, single axle dump truck, tandem axle dump truck, water truck, backhoe, power broom, and compaction equipment; performs vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure a safe operating condition.
  • Performs manual and mechanized patching of road surfaces.
  • Concrete work to include pouring, forming, and finishing.
  • Carries out traffic control procedures.
  • Installs drainage structures including culverts; cleans culverts and adjacent areas of dirt and debris as needed.
  • Monitors and accounts for materials usage.
  • Completes tasks in support of road maintenance including, but not limited to, carpentry work, fence installation, jackhammering, painting, erosion and drainage control, cattle guard replacements, tree trimming, grounds maintenance, refuge removal, and weed mowing/control.
  • Performs snowplowing and sanding.
  • Performs bridge maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

What You Have

HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER I:
  • 6 months of road maintenance or construction work experience preferred.
HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER II:
  • 1 year or more of road maintenance or construction work experience required.
  • Possession of a Colorado Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER I & II:
  • High school diploma or GED
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of a background check and physical

  • All time off work taken by County employees for the days designated as Early Release shall be considered holiday time off for purposes "worked time" in determining Overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • If an employee is absent the day preceding or following the holiday without prior approval, the employee will not be paid for the holiday

DEPARTMENTS SCHEDULED TO WORK ON HOLIDAYS
Due to operational requirements, some employees will be required to work on holidays. The employee must take the holiday by the end of the month following the holiday at a date approved by their Elected Official or Department Director

SICK LEAVE
Regular full-time employees accrue eight (8) hours per month with a maximum accrual of 960 hours.

VACATION LEAVE

  • Upon initial date of hire: earn eight (8) hours per month with a maximum accrual of 144 hours.
  • After 5 years: earn twelve (12) hours per month with a maximum accrual of 216 hours.
  • Ater 10 years: earn sixteen (16) hours per month with a maximum accrual of 288 hours.


RETIREMENT
All Regular Full-Time employees and Elected Officials are required to participate in the County Retirement Plan upon completion of one (1) month of continuous employment. A pre-tax deduction of 8.25% will be deducted from the employee's monthly pay.

EMPLOYER MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION
